Sweet sweet self indulgence

I feel like I’ve been all over the place with my illustration recently, I’m exploring all different styles and experimenting more than ever with colour. By day I spend 90% of my time using 3D software and working with sculpture do when I come home I really feel like I want to let go and explore. This is another example of my head spinning off in to different directions, no rhyme or reason just the first thing that came out of my pencil. Old wormy head…. enjoy!

Humility

Life got busy again recently but I found some time to draw this guy and have a play with some different colour combinations. I’ve named it “humility” because of everything going on with mars and the idea of a one way ticket some day to potentially populate and sacrifice a normal life here on earth. I drew the cross upside down by mistake and decided to research what that actually means and loved that has routes in humility and self sacrifice.

Here come the longdogs….

I’ve been playing with the idea of illustrating a close friends dog, he’s our dogs best buddy and his name certainly isn’t princess but he acts like it! I quite like the idea of him as a recurring character… let’s see where it goes.

Oh prints coming soon!

It’s all calypso!

Funny journey with this one, I felt like the original painting was really strong while I was working on it but as soon as I started to think about finishing up something didn’t work for me. So I’ve reworked it and now I’m 85% happy with it, it’s all a lesson though so I don’t really mind.

Colour and character

I feel like I finally pushed outside my comfort zone with this illustration, it was totally off the cuff. As the doodle developed I was thinking Big Bang theory or any member of Weezer during the early 2000’s, and then I wimped out a bit when I got to he jumped. I was very conscious of trying a new colour scheme which I’m really happy with, I think I have a long way to go with my painting technique but I’m never going to get there if I don’t paint!

Watercolouring a bit more

Yesterday’s water colour experiments, the character has all been hand painted and then inked. Because I’m not scanning these I had to do a little clean up so I used @procreate pocket and decided to add a background in digitally. First time I’ve used watercolour in this way but the plan is to complete a few more and see how confident I’m feeling. #watercolour #paint #portrait #cartoon #toon #doodle #sketch #illustration #illustrator #illustrated #doodle #pen #ink #pencil #art #poster #posterart #digitalart #digitalillustration #digital #procreate #pattern #print #style #design #colour #colours #painting #paintbrush

Painter….ish

I’ve had an evening of creatively playing with multiple media’s, starting with a pencil sketch then to paint and on to my comfort zone of digital again. I’m still interested in developing my skills and understanding of form and shape. This is a total free style and it’s certainly where I’m most comfortable!
