Occasionally I like to have a play with digital painting in photoshop… I would confidently say I’m pretty rubbish but none the less I enjoy it and I thought I’d share a concept I was playing with a couple of weeks ago. It’s a little bit rough around the edges and I think it’s something I’ll revisit over this year. I’d really like to update my computer and tablet because I think it will ramp up my productivity a little more, hopefully I can look into that at some point.
It seems like I’m keeping my own promises and pushing on with my creative restart, I feel like I’ve built a very strong project for the year and I’m already feeling excited about what I’ll produce in that time.
The ability to sketch, doodle and polish my work while on the go has only been possible for me in recent months but I would fully attribute my successful concentration on access to apps such as adobe draw and adobe sketch. I am by nature a traditionalist with an interest in digitisation but this has stream lined my work flow. This latest illustration is based on a sketch from around 5 years ago, maybe more. I love pattern making… I love arts and crafts so I suppose these sketchs revolved around those ideas but are now certainly more focused on constructing a bold image.
I’ve spent some time looking back at sketches that never amounted to anything and discovered I have various characterisations of birds. I’ve picked my favourite few and started to rework them.
These illustrations will be more ambitious than my doodles and I hope that as I keep pushing on it becomes more and more visible in each piece.
Feeling good considering I’ve only been back at it for a couple of weeks.
Night three of reminding myself how to hold a pen and also how much fun I can have when I’m not worrying about what my work may end up being or the context and meaning of the image. This is a 10 min sketch and colour using the iPad again, the doodle is probably 7 or 8 years old and I’ve just used it as a back plate for inspiration.
